The Northeastern University, Bouvé College of Health Sciences, Ph.D. Program in Counseling Psychology at the Boston Campus is accredited by the Commission on Accreditation of the American Psychological Association.
Prospective Ph.D. students can expect an enriching and unique program that prepares students for entry-level practice in counseling psychology. The distinct curriculum of the Ph.D. program will allow students to engage in translational research related to health promotion, merge science and practice, and develop consultation and leadership skills. Intensive clinical training is a key aspect of the program in order to provide the necessary skills to work with a variety of psychological and health-related issues. This intensive clinical training will last for a minimum of two years and will include advanced fieldwork at various mental health setting in the Boston area. The program has an emphasis on an ecological model that conceptualizes relationships and research across multiple systems. Students will have the opportunity to engage with culturally and ethnically diverse student-centered faculty, supportive student cohorts, and research teams. Applicants should be aware that a master's degree and consistent demonstrated interest in counseling psychology are required to participate in the program, which will take an additional minimum of four years.
The CHANGE Lab researches various aspects of pediatric psychology and health disparities in adolescents, young adults, and their families, including but not limited to: a) health disparities in obesity and HIV; b) intersectional identities of race, gender, class, appearance, and sexual orientation) protective factors against stigma, discrimination, and co-occurring adversities of HIV, partner violence, substance use, and metabolic complications.
Our lab is dedicated to being a part of the solution when it comes to health related disparities and wishes to foster global empowerment for minorities and underrepresented populations. In order to achieve our goals locally and abroad, we need like-minded, dedicated individuals on our team.
