Prospective Graduate Students
The CHANGE Lab researches various aspects of pediatric psychology and health disparities in adolescents, young adults, and their families, including but not limited to: a) health disparities in obesity and HIV; b) intersectional identities of race, gender, class, appearance, and sexual orientation) protective factors against stigma, discrimination, and co-occurring adversities of HIV, partner violence, substance use, and metabolic complications.
Our lab is dedicated to being a part of the solution when it comes to health related disparities and wishes to foster global empowerment for minorities and underrepresented populations. In order to achieve our goals locally and abroad, we need like-minded, dedicated individuals on our team.
Please note, Dr. Thurston will not be taking a student for Fall 2023.

Helping develop interventions to increase ethnic identity
Examining how discrimination impacts health outcomes
Bridging the gap between science and the public through art
Examining diversity, equity, and inclusion in the academic health sciences
Exploring co-occurring HIV, interpersonal violence, and substance misuse
Developing partnerships with organizations through community based research
Literature reviews, data collection, manuscript/conference presentation, and leading lab meetings
